This three-day Painting Workshop is suitable for both novices or more experienced artists who may be using color without clear understanding or knowledge of color theory. While we appreciate the beauty and versatility of color in our surroundings, working with colors can be a challenge.  This class will give you confidence in your use of color and deepen your artistic perception.

The hands-on exercises focus on using the principles of color theory to achieve harmonious color and to creating beautiful paintings. Lectures focus on traditional color attributes such as hue, value, intensity and various visual, perceptual and psychological aspects of color. Students use this knowledge to create a still life painting on the last day, utilizing the theory and techniques learnt. We work with acrylic paints because of their versatility, but the techniques can be applied to any painting medium. Each student is given a portfolio of materials included in the tuition cost. Some of the exercises will require finishing after the 4 hour session.

The workshop fee of $825 includes all materials ($200 value) comprising paints, palettes, illustration board, brushes, color wheel, color theory worksheets and more. It is a great workshop for those who want to get started on a lifelong journey into painting and color.

We ship the portfolio of materials worldwide. Shipping costs over $50 will be born by participant. Please note there may be customs duties if we ship to countries other than the United States.

Betty Edwards' book, Color – A Course in Mastering the Art of Mixing Colors,  was published in 2004 and is available through Barnes & Noble and most large bookstores including Amazon.com.  The three day color workshop loosely follows the book in content:

*  perceive how light affects color

*  understand how colors affect one another

*  manipulate hue, value, and intensity of colors

*  balance color in still life paintings

*  understand how the psychological meaning of colors can apply to your unique color expression and to your surroundings

Day One starts with a slide lecture on different aspects of color followed by students completing paintings of a painted color wheel.

Day Two begins with a discussion of the psychological aspects of color followed by a paintings of value and intensity scales.

Day Three reviews painting materials and surfaces followed by students completing a still life painting on a canvas board.

A Zoom link to sign on to the workshop will be sent prior to the class
